Let me be one of many who are upset about this mess-
People who are convinced that the government isn’t trying to silence us, must be shocked by these bills that are possibly going to be passed-
SOPA and PIPA have good intentions- but not such good reprocussions. Here’s a few quotes I’ve bolded so people get the hint.
Free speech advocates, like the Electronic Frontier Foundation, worry that SOPA may provide powerful new tools to silence online speech. Confronted with uncomfortable political speech, repressive governments often seek to silence dissent by reporting content as defamatory, slanderous or copyright infringing, hoping the companies hosting the speech will remove the content.
In effect, it would create a firewall to prevent users from accessing prohibited intellectual property, much as China’s “great firewall” limits access to politically sensitive information.
Hm. I wonder what other countries do this?
Try China and Iran. Alright, I’ll let your fillings mill over that.
Think about this:
Youtube- gone
Google- pretty much gone
Tumblr- gone
Facebook- gone
Twitter- gone
DeviantArt- gone (you’re drawing material that isn’t yours, right?)
Probably even Pandora, since you are listening to the music for free. Think back to the Radiohead incident a few years back when even though they gave their music out free online and it hadn’t really played on the radio- because they were producing music the radio guys tried to sue them for it. For them giving away THEIR music.
Its a big fuckin’ mess and I highly recommend that now people read George Orwell novels more than ever. They want us ignorant, silent, and stupid. Dumb, deaf and mute.
We’re all goin down in flames unless we can stop it.
